Worship & Sacred Services

We welcome all who seek a place of grace, community, and spiritual nourishment in the Episcopal tradition.

Sunday Holy Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the central act of Sunday worship at St. Stephen’s. Rite I is a quiet, traditional-language service at 8:00 AM. Choral Eucharist Rite II is at 10:30 AM. The service is Rite II (more contemporary language), except during the penitential seasons of Lent and Advent, when we use Rite I traditional language. This service includes music.

A Living Community

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church has served the Oak Ridge community for over six decades. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee and the worldwide Anglican Communion, a tradition that holds Scripture, Reason, and Tradition together as the pillars of faith.

We believe in a generous orthodoxy: rooted in the creeds, open to the questions, and moved by the Spirit. Our doors are open to all who are searching, all who are certain, and everyone in between.

Whether you were raised in the church or have never set foot inside one, you will find a welcome here that is genuine and without condition.

Sacraments of Life

St. Stephen’s marks baptism, marriage, burial, and pastoral care with prayer, sacrament, and conversation with clergy.

i.

Weddings & Holy Matrimony

Marriage preparation begins with a conversation with clergy so the parish can help plan the liturgy with care.

ii.

Baptism & Confirmation

Baptism welcomes children and adults into the Body of Christ; confirmation prepares youth and adults to reaffirm baptismal vows.

iii.

Funerals & Burial of the Dead

The Burial Office proclaims Christian hope and gives family and friends a place to grieve, remember, and pray. Our liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection, finding joy in the certainty that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). So, while we rejoice that one we love has entered into the nearer presence of our Lord, we sorrow in sympathy with those who mourn.
